Final days and book design

Tuesday through Friday were dedicated to continuing the work on the books. The students worked individually crafting "their London Experience." On Tuesday we all ate pizza together and on Thursday afternoon each student presented their work to the class, as we had done in London, for constructive feedback. The finished books are due in digital form on August 11. The books will be showcased on campus during the upcoming academice year and AIGA OC will have a special event to showcase the work of the students as well.

Thank you all for following along.

Monday - back to work

Monday class began at 10 am and ended about 3. The students worked to begin designing the digital version of their "My London Experience" book. They received help, critical feedback, and instruction from Professor Leland and Chimenti. Some students chose to isolate themselves and work alone for part of the time. The books are due on Thursday afternoon.

the long trip home on Saturday

Our time in London came to an end all too quickly. On Saturday morning a little over half of the students left around 8 am for Heathrow and their respective flights. The rest of us had a chance to do some last minute shopping for food and the long long airplane ride ahead. Of course a little something to enjoy while shopping wasn't a bad idea either. Some students slept in the shuttle to the airport, then there was checking in and weighing the bags, the bus to the plane, the 11 hour plane flight, the waiting for our baggage at LAX. We all got back in safely at about 11 pm CA time.

more Friday - and then what...

Saturday is a travel day. One group of students is leaving the hotel for the airport at 8 am. Another group is leaving the hotel at noon. The final student will be leaving on Monday.
The blog will continue beginning that same day, as the students still have course work remaining. Their final assignment is to design a book that captures "their London experience." Please check in next week for more updates.

Friday - Final London delivery

We left at 9:10 am for our meeting at Buro Happold. The students gathered around the conference table, Professor Leland then introduced the project to our customer. Each group presented, and the customer gave feedback on each proposed solution.
Overall they were very impressed with all the groups work. They gave Chapman University high praise and they lauded the students creative efforts.
The students then went off to see what last bits of London they could see. The professors retired to a pub to grade this project and then did some sight seeing on their own. Finishing at THE ORANGE gastropub and having British fare one last time before returning to Orange County tomorrow.

Mock presentations

Thursday - pre game warm up

On Thursday, as always, the students are making the last edits to their projects and presentations. One group chose to work in the hotel's lounge, while the rest worked in the conference room. After lunch the work continued, refining, getting professor feedback, the day culminated with each group mock presenting to the entire class for feedback.

More Hampton

Hampton Palace was just too beautiful to not show a few more of the pictures.

So at nearly 11 pm after dinner, then dessert, certain members of our party decided that a pizza to "take away" as we headed home would be great. Here you see the group waiting for their pie to be done. It was a great afternoon of sight seeing, eating, laughing, drawing on the train, eating dessert, and late night noshing.

Train and Hampton

Wednesday work

The students worked from 9 to 1:30 creating the art work to support and solve communication problem posed by their customer while obeying all the Olympic branding rules. Included in that was a brief break for lunch and then we left for Hampton Court Palace. It was a half hour train ride away from London. We ate dinner together and then we "goodged" for dessert getting off at the tube stop that coined the term - Goodge.

Tuesday - working...

On Tuesday we begin at 9 with an individual review of each students 4th project - the book they have to create of their entire London experience. Then the students work in groups to refine their concepts and begin fleshing them out for the rest of the day. There is pressure building for the assignment and pressure building as our time in London winds to a close.

Mmmm pie and pizza

Ron and I also went to our favorite pizza place
